Is your Panasonic bread pan scuffed too?

My Panasonic YR2540 bread pan started clouding and picking up scuff marks within a few weeks of buying it, and it turns out that it's a common problem.

If you've got one of the newer Panasonic bread makers and you're seeing the same thing, this is what I found out.

Do you own a more recent Panasonic bread maker, like the SD-R2530, SD-YR2540 or SD-YR2550? If so, how’s your bread pan holding up?

I bought a Panasonic YR2540 in January 2026 and after a few weeks, I noticed clouding inside the bread pan*. I was surprised because I’d been so careful with it. My previous bread maker, a ZB2512, worked fine, but I’d scratched the pan by removing bread with a soft plastic spatula. Lesson learned; the new pan would be treated like a newborn baby. No soaking, cleaning only with a soft cloth, no recipes with seeds, and absolutely no spatulas.

I contacted Panasonic, who did some troubleshooting with me. “Have you wiped the marks? Have you washed the pan with warm water?”, etc. After a month of back and forth, amassing many case numbers, this was the response:

“Thank you. We have raised your concern to the relevant team and they have confirmed this is not an issue with the coating, such discoloration can be caused by minor scratches, but also by flour residue remaining in the slightly porous structure of the bowl."

Followed by:

"No worries. This is not a problem and does not affect the quality of baked goods... Our breadmaker pans are coated with Non Stick Fluorine coating which is robust and able to withstand the temperatures generated by the product."

I didn't push it because I’d made a few off-manual sourdough loaves, so I thought it might be my fault. Another inspection of my old pan showed some barely visible clouding (not counting the deeper scratches). I made loads of sourdough loaves in that pan.

I ordered a second bread pan, because I had to know if sourdough was the cause. I’m referring to loaves made with a traditional starter, not the Panasonic yoghurt sourdough recipe. My YouTube channel has several videos on bread maker sourdough. I do put warnings on them about the bread pan, but I’d never personally experienced any issues until I bought the YR2540. The second pan is now 6 months old and has only been used for Panasonic-approved recipes. It has some scuffs but not as many as the first pan. I’m positive I’ll see more emerge as I continue to use the pan.

A few months ago, I joined two private Panasonic bread maker Facebook groups (thanks for the recommendation, Jay). What a wealth of information they contain, including lots of discussion about scuffed bread pans. It’s nice to know it’s not just me, although at this stage I can’t entirely rule sourdough loaves out.

One of the group admins** has owned loads of Panasonic bread makers, and in a public Reddit post she says that:

“the Teflon coating on the bread pan gets scuffed/abraded very easily just from tipping the loaf out”

And:

“a scuffed pan is not classed as something you can make a warranty claim for”

That’s certainly been my experience. I bought my bread maker from Lakeland, and even though Panasonic won't replace it for scuffing, some people have had success going through Lakeland's own 3-year guarantee instead.

If you own a Panasonic bread maker, I’d definitely recommend joining Panasonic bread maker UK Recipes & Technical and Panasonic Bread Maker Recipe Group UK & Ireland (I don't know why there are two groups). They have improved recipes in handy PDF format, and loads of useful information that never gets indexed in Google because the groups are private.

I made my video to hopefully hear from others, and for anyone who isn't finding much in the search engines (like me, earlier in the year).

Non-stick is a sensitive topic and this is what I’ve settled on: I’ve cut back where I can, and I hope that making bread from scratch, with minimal ingredients, is a net positive overall. That’s my logic and I'll leave it there. I may change my mind in future.

I do think it’s cheeky that the marketing on third-party websites, like John Lewis and Lakeland, talks about how tough and scratchproof the pan is. Funnily enough, the Panasonic website barely mentions anything about the pan.

* I found it devilishly hard to photograph and film the clouding.

** Thank you to admin and group expert, SuzMichell, for sharing your vast knowledge about Panasonic bread makers. I was happy to learn that the clouding probably wasn't down to me, and then annoyed with Panasonic, and then sad that I gave away my old ZB2512.
