Chocolate Peanut Butter Kefir Smoothie recipe

Jump to recipe

A chocolate, peanut butter and banana smoothie made with kefir. We have this for dessert at least twice a week.

Someone recently told me that smoothies are just empty calories. Bah. This one has:

  • Various strains of good bacteria from the kefir
  • Omega fatty acids from the seeds
  • Fibre (from the dates and psyllium husk)
  • A little protein from the peanut butter and dairy

Plus it’s delicious. My friend, who has a self-proclaimed “children’s palate”, says she could drink it by the pint. The first time she tasted it she asked if it contained alcohol. It doesn’t; the tang comes from kefir but you could use plain yoghurt or milk instead.

As an aside: I've recently discovered squeezy peanut butter made from 100% peanuts. According to reviews the bottle will eventually clog but for now it works a treat. It's great on smoothies, porridge and various desserts.

Notes

This is basically Peanut Butter Banana Kefir Smoothie but it makes a bigger portion and contains cocoa. I leave out the coffee as we usually drink this after dinner.

For a thicker smoothie use frozen bananas and skip the ice.
